Do not expose your pet to direct sunlight; It can become aggressive

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Temperatures have already risen and the weatherman has warned of extreme heat in the remaining summer months. In addition to people, extreme heat also affects animals. Heat makes dogs more aggressive and that’s why cases of dog bites increase in summer, vets say.

Dogs are vulnerable to heat and can also suffer from heat stroke. Doctors recommend that dogs should not be exposed to direct sunlight during summer and should be kept in a cool and shady place. A room that is well ventilated and has a fan or cooler will be best. Ice cream, cottage cheese, watermelon and ice cubes keep them cool.

“Heat can make dogs aggressive, irritable and short-tempered, so you need to be careful with street dogs in summer. People can store cold water in clay vessels for dogs just like they do for birds,” says veterinarian Dr Mukesh Tiwari. Dogs can also be given cottage cheese and rice.

According to Dr. Tiwari, a street dog can suffer from rabies if it drools excessively, cannot close its mouth and hangs its lower jaw or tries to bite itself. Information about such dogs should be communicated immediately to the municipal corporation. If a person is bitten by a dog, it is mandatory for him to take the full rabies vaccination course. If a dog looks thin or weak and has dry skin, he may be hungry and such dogs are even more aggressive.
