Indore: As rising temperatures tighten its grip on the city, Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalay authorities have mobilized resources to ensure the welfare of their animal residents. In response to rising mercury levels, innovative measures have been taken to protect the creatures from the scorching sun and prevent heat-related illnesses. A strategy has been devised to help the prisoners beat the heat. Coolers and green nets have been installed in the animal enclosures to provide relief from the oppressive temperatures. A range of measures have been put in place, including coolers, water sprinklers and basins to protect the animals from the risk of heat stroke. More than 8 to 10 coolers have been placed in the enclosures where animals such as lions, tigers, leopards and bears reside. Moreover, man-made water bodies have been introduced into the tiger enclosures to provide adequate hydration and maintain natural humidity. Bird residents are also protected from direct sunlight, with Khus (vetiver) curtains covering three sides of their aviary. Indore Zoo in-charge Uttam Yadav said, “All the animals and birds are fine in the zoo. Special arrangements have been made for the animals to protect them from hot weather. We have also made changes in their diet, especially for birds, by offering them juicy fruits and water with added glucose and ORS powder to keep them hydrated “In particular, water tanks have been created for the animals. animals like deer and peacocks, nilgai. Moreover, officials at Indore’s Zoo are trying to maintain grass and vegetation in the enclosures to soften the temperature and provide the animals with some relief from the sweltering heat. “We have installed 8 sprinklers in their aviary for birds.
