WEST PALM BEACH – PB Wraps, a longtime sandwich shop on Dixie Highway, will close its doors for good on Sunday, April 21, after 23 years in business.

Known for its wraps, quesadillas, bowls, burgers, chicken wings and fried green beans, it was once extremely popular and was even visited a few times by rock star Jon Bon Jovi.

Rene Richthofen and his wife Jane opened the place after September 11, and business boomed on the busy street, along with other small businesses. Jane Richthoven said COVID-19 was ultimately the beginning of demise for the restaurant.

“Unfortunately, we haven’t been the same since,” she said. “We’ve had a tough few years since then, and the price of food and competition have just kept us from bringing in the sales. It’s time.”

She said the restaurant had lost its regular customers because “people just don’t spend as much on lunches anymore.”

The restaurant, which was originally part of the Great Wraps chain, occupied a small spot in the El Cid neighborhood just north of Belvedere Road at 2409 S. Dixie Highway. Many of the chain spots were located in shopping centers, but this particular spot in the older building with art and car decor created more of a local feel.

Dinner was also served, but lunch was the real money driver.

What’s next for the owners of PB Wraps?

The Richthofens aren’t sure what’s next for the site, which is owned by Palm Beach County businessman Andrew Roddy.

Jane Richthofen said she and her husband, who also once owned a Miami Subs, are stepping away from the restaurant business for good and will both continue to focus on their works of art.

Jane, who uses her maiden name Manus in the art community, has created several sculptures, including a 15-foot-tall, 2,000-pound painted aluminum abstract piece that is displayed along with the fountains at the luxury Bristol condominium on Flagler Drive downtown from West. Palm tree beach.

Jane Manus, who learned sculpture at the Art Institute of Boston, has exhibited her work worldwide and is included in many prestigious collections, including the Cricket Taplin Collection in Miami, the Harn Museum of Art in Gainesville, the Lincoln Center/List Collection in New York and the Georgia Museum of Art in Atlanta.

Her husband, who is from Austria, is also an artist and plans to continue his work both nationally and internationally.

“It was a really good run,” said Jane Richthofen. “We had exceptional employees and I will miss them the most. That, and I have no idea where I’m going to have lunch now.”
