June grew up in Strathroy, Ontario, and attended Normal School (Teacher’s College) in London, Ontario. There she met Nola, who had a date but no car.
Nola’s brother Ralph had a car but no date, so she introduced him to June. Shortly afterward, Ralph proposed, June said yes, and they were happily married for more than 50 years.
They taught together at a two-room rural school. Later she typed his dissertation. After a stint at Wayne State University in Detroit, they settled in Kitchener-Waterloo. While Ralph taught at the university, June did speech therapy with mentally handicapped children and wrote a book about her techniques. They retired to the Beaver Valley near Thornbury, Georgian Bay, where they pursued their shared passions for skiing, gardening and nature. She became an experienced weaver with an interest in natural dyes and homespun yarn.
After Ralph died in 1999, she developed close friendships through her many interests, including book clubs, lectures and art, to name a few. She enjoyed her neighbors in Beaver Valley.
Her last year and a half were spent under the special care of the wonderful staff at Orchard View, Almonte.
Predeceased by her close brother Bill Hambly, she is survived by her daughters Karen Krueger of Fitzroy Harbor and Colleen Martin (Ron) of Owen Sound, granddaughter Kate Martin, her sister-in-law Nola Simmons (Hugh) and many beloved nieces and nephews. cousins. She valued her relationships with her late sisters-in-law Ilene Hambly, Ruth Smith, Shirley Holden (Em).
June’s private care and arrangements have been entrusted to Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior.
