Why the cast left the jungle this year ‘furious’ and ‘disappointed’

This year’s season I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here! Australia ended on Sunday night with Skye Wheatley walking away as this year’s queen of the jungle, but there’s been little celebration for her co-stars now that it’s all over.

Yahoo lifestyle understands that many of this year’s campmates are “disappointed” by the lack of impact their time on the show has had on their public profiles.

Despite this season reaching 1.4 million viewers at its peak, none of the cast members have gained many new followers on their social media – with Candice Warner even losing fans.

Brittany Hockley, who was eliminated in episode 20 and had gained a lot of screen time up to that point, has only gained 4,410 new Instagram followers in the past 30 days.

Similarly, Michelle Bridges has only gained 2,730 followers, swimmer Ellie Cole has gained 4,560 and Candice has lost more fans than she gained, with her account losing 1,410 followers in the last 30 days.

Skye, Khanh Ong and Callum Hole have grown their social media the most, gaining just over 20,000 new followers each, but these numbers still fall short.

A source connected to the show said: “Many of the campmates who were eliminated before the final rushed to their phones and were left disappointed by the lack of engagement and new fans. As much as they all say they do the show for the experience and compensation, the majority continue to promote their public profiles, but this hasn’t actually happened.

Yahoo lifestyle also understands that some have become “furious” while catching up on media coverage of their time on the show, and seeing host Robert Irwin has been the main focus this year.

“Everyone loves him, but some feel like it was just the Robert Irwin show this year,” the source added.

In the last 30 days, Robert has gained 228,900 new Instagram followers thanks to his time hosting the primetime TV show.
