Smith, Alton John
Passed away peacefully at the Leacock Care Centre, Orillia on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in Orillia, he was predeceased by his parents Tom and Annie Smith.
Loving brother of May (Bill) – both predeceased, Mary (Don-predeceased) (Art-predeceased), and 2 sisters and 1 brother who died in infancy. Alton was a very hard worker, working at Bass Lake Block & Tile and Locke’s Auto Parts. He had a big heart and would help anyone. He never married or had children, but was a proud uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. Alton looked forward to spending Christmas and other holidays at the home of his cousin Don and his wife Karen. He also enjoyed spending time with his sister Mary at these special gatherings.
Alton enjoyed cheering on many baseball and football teams over the years. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Leacock Care Center for all the care you provided during Alton’s time with you in Home Area 2, and also thank you to Dr. Gallagher and staff for all your care for many years to come. Alton will be deeply missed by longtime friend Tammie Jones and her family. As per his wishes, private family arrangements followed by cremation. Alton’s final resting place will be with family at St. Andrew’s St. James’ Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Canada through the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James Street E., Orillia (705) 327 0221.
