Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists selects new Exco in Kogi and vows to tackle quacks

The Kogi State chapter of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria (AMLSN) has elected Obajemu Samuel as its new chairman.

Obajemu was elected along with eight other board members of the association in Lokoja on Saturday.

The election, which was conducted through a secret voting system, was supervised by Mr. Robert Ashi, the first National Vice Chairman of AMLSN.

Ashi commended the outgoing Chairman, Opisa Aminu, and other executives for prioritizing the welfare of members and challenging the new leadership to continue the good works.

Also elected are: Akubo Andrew, Vice Chairman; John Onuche, secretary; Victor Olupeka, Assistant Secretary; Mariam Saidu, treasurer.

Others are: Bolanle Enitan, Minister of Finance; Ahmodu Moses, Publicity Secretary; Oyinbo Daniel, Accountant and Juweratu Musa, Welfare Officer.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Obajemu Samuel, promised that the new leadership of AMLSN in Kogi State will prioritize capacity building for the members.

Obajemu promised that the association will maintain standard practices, tackle quackery and ensure best practices in medical laboratory diagnostics.

“We will build synergy with all healthcare professionals, build linkages with all other organizations, NGOs, NAFDAC, NDLEA and other relevant agencies.

“We will prioritize optimizing the welfare of members in areas such as payment of full CONHESS, proper placement and increase in manpower,” he said.

The new chairman of AMLSN said the association will explore areas of competence in close collaboration with the state government to build a robust economy through the production of medical consumables such as antibiotic sensitivity discs, blood group antisera and better and more powerful stains.

He appealed to the government to support the proposed move to build a robust economy in the state, ensure healthcare delivery, promote innovation and encourage manufacturing capacity of these high-profile professionals.

The Executive Officers of the Sixth Kogi State will be in office from 2024 to 2027.
