Aditya mission is continuously sending data on Sun: ISRO chief

ISRO chief S. Somnath said on April 21 that the leading space research agency’s Aditya L1 solar mission is continuously transmitting data about the Sun.

Mr Somnath, who spoke to reporters here after receiving a special award from jewelery giant PC Chandra Group, said various instruments of the spacecraft are continuously working to feed data on many aspects.

“We’re looking at the sun all the time – observing magnetic UV charges, observing corona graphs, X-ray observation and other things,” he said.

India’s first solar mission craft, the Aditya-L1 spacecraft, was launched on September 2, 2023.

“As we keep this satellite for five years, the observation will be analyzed as a long-term measure. It is not the same as your instant news that something has been reported about the sun today, that something different will happen tomorrow, that every one day something will happen.” day,” he explained.

All observations will be made now, but the results will be known later, he said.

“A solar eclipse takes place when the sun is blocked by the moon. It is not the case that anything happens in the sun during a solar eclipse. But our mission is of course also to collect data about the sun before, during and after an eclipse” , said Mr Somnath. , while answering a question about whether the mission will shed light on the solar eclipse.

Talking about collaborations with other space agencies, he said that ISRO is building a joint satellite NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar).
