Hanuman Ji is called by various names such as Maruti Nandan, Bajrangbali, Pawan Putra, Veer Hanumana, Sundar (this name was given by his mother in his childhood) and Sankat Mochan who removes all the sufferings of his devotees. Hanuman is known for his strength and power and it is believed that Hanuman Ji can do anything and everything, even those things that seem impossible to everyone. There is a story in Ramayana where Lord Hanuman saved Laxman and carried an entire mountain on his shoulder to bring the sanjeevani booti.

According to Hindu mythology, Anjana was an Apsara (nymph), she was cursed by a sage and that is why she was born on earth. She could only get rid of this curse after she had a son. According to the Valmiki Ramayana, Hanuman’s father was Kesari, the king of the place Sumeru. Anjana prayed to Shiva for twelve years with the desire to have a son. Lord Shiva fulfilled her wishes and then Hanuman was born.

Story of Lord Hanuman

When Maa Sita was kidnapped by Ravana, Hanuman could not locate the place where Ravana was keeping Mata Sita. He then used his intellect and power to build an army to reach Lanka and rescue Sita. He once reached Lanka to find Sita Mata and there he burnt Lanka and killed Ravana’s son Akshay Kumar. He used his power to become so small that he could enter the kingdom of Ravana. Many notable incidents happen in Ramayana like finding Goddess Sita, burning the Lanka of its tail and holding the mount for sanjeevni booti to save Laxman.

Since we all know that Lord Hanuman is Chiranjeevi and that he lives on earth, at the time of Mahabharata Yuddha, Lord Krishna requested Hanuman Ji to be present there on the chariot of Arjun. According to the legends, the victory was not possible at all if Lord Hanuman was not there on the chariot, and according to the scriptures, the chariot turned to ashes when Arjun left the chariot.

Food stalls or Bhandara are organized to feed needy and poor people. On this day, Hanuman ji is decorated with flowers, new clothes, gold and silver tenderloin and jewelry. The people who belong to sports, wrestling and martial arts offer special prayers to Hanuman Ji to seek blessings as they considered Bajrangbali as their guru who gave them strength and power to fight with anyone.

People undertake many religious and spiritual activities on this auspicious day to seek the blessings of Pawan Putra Hanuman. They take the sankalp of reciting 108 hanuman chalisa on this day and some people get involved in bhajan and kirtan.
